Educational Residencies
Introduction to
Baroque Instruments and Period Performance: A perfect
introductory half-day residency for middle school, high
school, or collegiate institutions. The Music Director and
principal performers from The Bach Sinfonia provide an
introduction to the various sections of the full-baroque
ensemble and issue of period-instrument performance. This
2-hour workshop includes comparisons of modern practices and
instrument sounds with that of period instruments. This
residency can be combined with other programs as part of a
one- or two-day residency.
Advanced Performance Practice Techniques: A
full-day workshop designed for students with an interest in or
who are already studying early music. During the morning
session, principals and vocal soloists of The Bach Sinfonia
work with students in group or private lessons on standard
literature or works being presented in concert by the
Sinfonia. These sessions can be provided on either early or
modern instrument with an eye to fine stylistic approach. The
Music Director will also be available to work with
conductors-in-training regarding the issues of performance
practice and period performance. The afternoon session will
provide students of early music the opportunity to perform
alongside the principals of the ensemble in a mini-program of
works studied during the morning. Student conductors will also
have the opportunity for podium time before the ensemble. This
residency can provide an opportunity to open the door to the
public to see process become performance.
Other Residencies: You may work with the Music
and Artistic Director to formulate a residency just right for
your institution. We are happy to provide what is needed to
help you move your program forward through hands-on exciting
teaching of period style and practices of the 17th and 18th
centuries.
